Dr Merchant saved my life again by treating the 99 % blockage with a medicated stent. I was not mentally prepared for open heart surgery. Two weeks back, I had chest pain and breathlessness even on little activity. My tests showed both my kidneys had failed and I had a 90% blockage in my heart artery. by Mumtaz Sayed, Housewife My bypass surgery was done 12 years ago and angioplasty with stent 3 years ago by Dr Merchant . In the last 6 months. I had been having heaviness in the chest and breathlessness even on mild activity. A 2D Echo showed the main valve of my heart was severely blocked. I had the option of doing a 2nd open heart surgery vs. the new technology of valve implant from the leg artery how they do in angiography. The risk of doing a 2nd open heart surgery for valve replacement was high. I opted for the Tran catheter Aortic valve implant (TAVI). I underwent the valve implant by Dr Alain Cribier and Dr Merchant at Hôpital Charles Nicolle, University of Rouen, France. The procedure was done under local anaesthesai, took 1 hour and I was totally awake during the operation. I was discharged from the hospital in 3 days time. I was feeling at the top of the world in 3 days time and went for a holiday to Paris before I travelled back to India. I am now only on aspirin. I do not have to take warfarin and blood test monitoring every 3 week like other patients with surgical valve replacement have to do. I feel great and thank Allah and Dr Merchant for giving me a new life.
